Doors That Close Right.
Three things that separate a door install you forget about from one that sticks every winter.
- 01
Plumb, Level & Square
A pre-hung door is only as good as the rough opening. We shim the jamb plumb, check the head level, and make sure the reveal is even all the way around before the trim goes on.
- 02
Flat-Rate Quotes
You'll know the price before we open the box. Interior pre-hungs, slab-only swaps, casing packages and crown runs all priced up front.
- 03
Tight Miters
Trim corners are coped or mitered to a hairline, glued, and pin-nailed so they don't open up in the dry season. We caulk and putty so it's paint-ready when we leave.

Door & Trim Install, A Few Things Worth Knowing.
If a neighbor in Mulino called and asked who to hire for door and trim installation, here's exactly what we'd tell them. First, pre-hung is almost always the right choice for an interior door. A pre-hung comes with the slab already hung in a brand new jamb, so the hinges are mortised right and the latch lines up out of the box. Slab-only is cheaper, but you inherit whatever's wrong with the existing jamb, and a lot of older Oregon City homes have racked jambs that won't ever close clean.
Second, the rough opening matters more than the door. We check that the opening is the right size (a standard 30-inch pre-hung wants a 32-inch rough opening) and that the floor under it is flat. If the floor sags toward one side, even by a quarter inch, the door will swing open or closed on its own. We shim the jamb plumb in both directions and verify the reveal is consistent all the way around before nailing anything off.
Third, trim is what makes the install look professional or sloppy. We pre-paint or pre-prime trim pieces before install when possible, cope inside corners on baseboard, and cut miters on a finish saw so the joints are tight. We caulk the wall side, putty the nail holes, and leave it paint-ready. The Dandy Handyman doesn't leave miters that telegraph through the paint.
