Why us

Light Fixtures, Done Right.

Three things that make the difference between a light that just turns on and one that finishes the room.

  • 01

    Done Safely

Power off at the breaker, voltage-tested at the box, grounded properly, and double-checked before you flip it back on. No surprises.

  • 02

    Flat-Rate Quotes

You get a real number before we start. Most flush mount and pendant swaps are a single set fee, with chandeliers and dimmer adds priced up front.

Canopies sit flush against the ceiling, escutcheons cover any old paint outlines, and we wipe down before we leave. It looks like it was always there.

Common questions, real answers

Light Fixture Install, The Things Folks Actually Ask.

We get a few of the same light fixture installation questions every week from homeowners in Mulino and Molalla, so let's knock them out up front. Question one is almost always, "Can I just put any new fixture in where my old one was?" Most of the time, yes. The standard junction box in the ceiling will support most flush mounts, semi-flush mounts, pendants, and smaller chandeliers without any modifications. The exceptions are heavy chandeliers (over about 50 pounds) and ceiling fans disguised as fixtures, both of which need a fan-rated brace box.

Second question we hear a lot from Oregon City and West Linn customers: "My new light is way bigger than the old one. Will there be a paint outline?" Probably, yeah. Light canopies (the round or rectangular piece that sits flush against the ceiling) are usually 5 to 6 inches across. If your old fixture's canopy was bigger, the unpainted ring around it will show. We carry a small kit of touch-up paints for common ceiling whites, and for trickier colors we can either spot paint with your leftover paint or talk you through getting a quick match at the local hardware store.

A neighbor over in Canby asked us last fall whether dimmers are worth installing at the same time as a new fixture. Short answer: yes, almost always. Two reasons. First, you're already paying for the trip and the breaker shutoff is already done, so adding a dimmer is mostly labor you'd be paying for anyway. Second, LED fixtures have gotten dimmer-compatible across the board, and being able to drop a dining roomchandelier to 30% during dinner is one of those small things that makes the room actually feel different.

Good to know

Light Fixture Questions.

Will my new fixture cover the spot where the old one was?
Usually yes, but not always. If your new canopy is the same size or larger than the old one, you'll never see the difference. If it's smaller, there's often a paint outline or unpainted ring around it. We can spot paint with leftover paint you have, or use a small medallion to cover the gap if that fits the style.
Do I really need to hire someone for a fixture swap?
If you're comfortable with the breaker box and the wiring is straightforward, plenty of folks do their own. We hear from a lot of homeowners in Oregon City who started a swap and discovered surprise aluminum wiring, a no-ground box, or three wires they weren't expecting. That's usually when they call. Knowing when to stop is half the job.
Can you install a fixture I bought online?
Yes, that's most of what we install. Just have the box opened with the instructions before we arrive. If parts are missing or damaged, we'll let you know before the breaker goes off so you can decide whether to reschedule or proceed with what you have.
What about chandeliers in tall foyers?
Most folks in West Linn and Tanner Basin have those big two-story foyer chandeliers. Doable, just send us a photo with something for scale and a rough ceiling height ahead of time so we can plan the right ladder or scaffold. No need to rent a lift in most cases.
Is it normal that my LED light flickers when I dim it?
It depends on the dimmer. Most flicker is from an old incandescent-only dimmer trying to run an LED bulb or fixture. The fix is swapping in an LED-compatible dimmer (a $25 part). If the flicker is still there after the swap, the bulb itself may not be dimmable, or it might be the wrong dimming protocol (some LEDs only work with leading-edge, others with trailing-edge).
Why does my new light hum?
Hum is almost always a dimmer mismatch. The dimmer is chopping the AC waveform and the LED driver doesn't like it. Try a different LED-rated dimmer or different bulbs. If a non-dimmable fixture hums on a steady switch, the driver inside the fixture might be defective and the manufacturer will usually replace it.
Can you add an under-cabinet light in the kitchen?
Yes. Plug-in LED strips are quick and we can install them in an afternoon. Hardwired under-cabinet lights tied into a wall switch require a bit more work because we may need to fish a wire down through the wall. We'll look and quote both options so you can choose.
Do you replace bathroom vanity sconces?
Absolutely, and that's one of the most-asked-for upgrades in the bathroom. The bigger thing to think about is where the existing junction box is — sometimes it's centered, sometimes it's offset to one side. If your new sconce wants a different center point, we may need to do a small drywall patch. We'll tell you up front.
